Not since ancient times have the classical themes of pride, incest and orgies been brought so vividly to life as in new lady comedy GLADIATRIX. The story unfolds in the dying days of Imperial Rome, a dissipated place where grown men coupled with boys and women ran small businesses. Struggling for a sense of purpose in this dirty town is Vulva, a noblewoman reduced to fighting in the arena as a she-gladiator by a series of shocking personal problems. Opening Vulva's eyes to the full depravity of the Roman way is Slaveman, a gentle anomaly in a culture of violence. The grandeur of Rome is startlingly brought to life by a supporting cast of prophets, gods and a lion.
Your Face Here are writer/performers Barunka O'Shaughnessy and Lucy Montgomery, and veteran performer James Bachman. Their first show GLADIATRIX is a cunning blend of cleverness, physical comedy and nob gags, which premiered last year at the Soho Theatre, and will be touring the UK throughout Autumn 2002.
Lucy has appeared in productions at the King's Head, Bridewell Theatre, Covent Garden Festival, and Greenwich Theatre. She previously performed at the Pleasance in the Footlights Revue, Rainbow Stranglers, and successful two-woman show Spank.
Barunka has written a range of material for the likes of Jonathan Ross, Matt Lucas, Sally Phillips, Fiona Allen, Phill Jupitus, John Thomson, John Ratzenberger and Gail Porter. Lucy and Barunka are also working on a comedy feature for the Film Council.
James has written and performed extensively at the Fringe, including a two-man show with Perrier Award winner 2001 Matthew Holness.
